One of the most frustrating things encountered on a data networks installation is the variety of ways in which console
cables and other such leads are wired for the network equipment. In particular older equipment.
This document contains diagrams detailing pinouts for various leads that are required for
linking to LAN/WAN equipment. Most of the pinouts have been designed with the idea that
you can make up the leads using RJ45-D9 (or D25) adapters and cable is a straight through
RJ45-RJ45 cable.
The wiring arrangement of the terminal lead for the Metrodata FM4000, which is
a G.704 framed to X.21 converter (A direct replacement for the Scitec SAT 704 box).
Configuration of this box is done via the terminal rather than DIP switches. The
FM4000 can also be found as an SNMP managed model.
